In 2018, Jim Fleischer was appointed CEO of Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity. He has dedicated his adult life to service in our organization, serving in the previous roles of Chapter Consultant, Chapter Advisor, Regional Governor, Supreme Governor, Assistant Executive Director, and Chief Operating Officer of AEPi.

In 2012, Jim with his wife, Ali, and their loving children, Ethan, Spencer, and Madi, made the move from Long Island, NY to Indianapolis, IN when he became the fraternity’s Assistant Executive Director.

The Fleischer Family is the First Family of AEPi, and AEPi is indeed a family affair! Jim met Ali during his travels as an AEPi Field Secretary. Their sons, now students at Indiana University, are also AEPi Brothers, and their daughter has more AEPi uncles than she can count!

Now is the opportunity for friends and the AEPi Brotherhood to wrap our arms around Jim’s family. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to AEPi’s Benevolent Brother Fund. Contributions to the Benevolent Brother Fund make it possible to provide support in the greatest times of tragedy, and help families like Jim’s pay towards the costs of college tuition, medical bills, and living expenses.

Additionally, please share your memories of Jim as an enduring legacy for his family. Jim has meant so much to Alpha Epsilon Pi for so many years, and his memory will surely be a blessing for his family and all that have met him.

Our sincere condolences on Jim's passing. A profound loss for your family as well as the entire community. May his memory be a blessing.

Aaron Robinson

Jim hired me to work alonside Jay Feldman supporting our AEPi Foundation and formally had me travel to AEPi Headquarters toi meet in person with board members, Andy, Jim, and the amazing staff employees. I learned quite a bit about the Jewish Foundation world by traveling and learning from Jay and each board executive I had the pleasure of working alonside towards meeting foundation strategic objectives and targets from 2014-2016. May Jim's memory forever be a blessing and thank you Jim for the opportunity and memories I have.

ESPONDA,
Arob

Jeff Jacobson

Jim was more than our brother and CEO. He was a steadying presence in all of our lives. His example as a father, husband, friend, and professional will guide me - and so many others that I know and love - through our days of grieving. His memory will buoy us for a lifetime.

AEPi United Kingdom Brothers

We remember Jim from all the times he visited the UK for the Europe & Israel Conclave. His warmth, positive energy and witty humour were great to be around. We will never forget his love of Dunkin Doughnuts coffee and constant desire for Johnny Walker Red whenever we went to the pub. We'll miss you Jim.

Gerry Garcia

Thank you, Jim, for your dedication to this Fraternity and thank you to Jim's family for sharing your shining star (of David) with us.

Jimbo was always popping up to save the day when we found ourselves getting into trouble. He was such a hilarious, kind, and caring man who always made us laugh. He was so hospitable, and hung out with us even though we were just a bunch of high schoolers. We will never forget the night we all slept over at the Fleischer house and wreaked havoc on their basement. We all miss him so much.

Theta Chi Fraternity

On behalf of Theta Chi Fraternity, please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Jim Fleischer. Our entire brotherhood unites in prayer and support of the men of Alpha Epsilon Pi as you mourn the loss of a great fraternity man.

I had the fortune to get to know Jim through interfraternal initiatives and considered him a good friend. I always found him to be positive, passionate, and deeply committed to the mission of Alpha Epsilon Pi. He continued to display great energy and enthusiasm for the cause even as he battled cancer.

Please find enclosed a gift to the Alpha Epsilon Pi Foundation in Jim's memory. I hope the days ahead will provide many opportunities to share happy memories of his life.

Interfraternally,

Michael Mayer

Minton Mayer

The Mayer family is so sorry for the loss of Jim. I knew from the first time that I met him when he was rushing AEPi at Kent State he would be a great brother. Jim was a mensch, a connector and always willing to help others. May his memory be a blessing for those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Terry Hugo

Jim was the best of us, a true mensch. He was both my boss, and my chapter brother. I’ll always hold the memories I have of him close to my heart. I’ll never forget the banter we shared when it came to Yankees/Cleveland baseball. Jim will always be a mentor in my life. At the funeral, I was moved hearing so many stories from past staff and friends about how Jim impacted their life. We sat around all night, crying and laughing with one another. Nothing is as true of a testament to Jim’s strength and courage than his work ethic. He literally ran our fraternity until his last breath. My heart goes out to Ali, Ethan, Spencer and Madi. I hope we continue to build on his legacy and have half the passion that he did. May his memory be a blessing.

Marty Bock

Jim - you're the best! Thank you, and we love you.

Jason Friedlander

Having worked closely with Jim during the filming and production of the film for the 100th we had more than a few memories and laughs.

It was just great to spend the time with him as he was transitioning into his full time role with AEPi.

He will be missed but never forgotten.

Beth Gruber

I met Jim and Alison when we were members of Temple Beth Torah in Smithtown, NY. I got to reconnect with Jim through our work with AEPi and SDT. I am now a proud AEPi mom and so grateful to Jim for his years of service to AEPi. May his memory be a blessing.

JOEL ADELMAN

I am an alumnus having belonged to the chapter at the University of Michigan and graduated in 1961. I didn't know Jim or anything about him until I read the announcement of his death issued by the fraternity. It is clear that he devoted a good part of his adult life to AEPi, that his death is untimely and that he leaves a wife and two children. His family can certainly use some financial support and I want to do my part with my donation.

We’ll miss you Jimmy Jam, but we’ll always be here for your family. Rest In Peace my friend ❤️

Adam Simha

Jim was an inspiration to us all. I first met Jim as an undergrad at AEPi HQ during a midwest master's retreat. Jim had an amazing ability to take control of a room without saying a single word-- I was always impressed by that. But, most of all, I will always remember his kindness, his intelligence, and his devotion to causes larger than himself. May his memory be a blessing.

I have spent the past week literally in a state of shock. I cannot believe that somehow we all have lost Jim to cancer! I have some of the best memories and times of my life tied up in my friendship with Jim. All 52 years of my life have been linked to Jim. It is all those memories that will keep me linked to Jim for the rest of my life! The term best friend is one that I see used by so many when they refer to their relationship with Jim and that is just validation of how special he is. I will forever miss the ability to be with Jim but I will never forget all the times we have spent together. May he Rest In Peace. All my love. Seth

Jim was funny, humble, smart and an amazing father, husband and brother. He was so dedicated to helping young men mature and grow. He literally helped thousands of people find their path, including me.
I’m gonna miss ya James Fleischer.

Mandy Stein Friedlander and Family

We were so saddened to hear of Jim's passing last weekend. On the dance floor at the Stein Bar/Bat Mitzvah's and weddings, to late nights at Conventions catching up on life - Jim always did it with the biggest smile on his face...and he always gave the best hugs!

As a daughter of a PSM, I have grown up in the AEPI family, just like Ethan, Spencer and Madi (her uncles are my uncles too!). If I have learned anything about this fraternity, it is that AEPI brothers and their families will be there in times of triumph and joy, and in times of need and sadness. Ali, Ethan, Spencer and Madi - our thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family. Sending you so much love!

We are so blessed to have so many wonderful memories with the Fleischer’s during their Smithtown years. Our boys not only went to school together, but were involved in scouts and numerous sports. As the boys friendship grew, so did the families bond. We spent endless days together running from one event to the next. Jim always had a smile no matter how crazy our fun- filled days were and often welcomed our boys and families into their home with open arms. Jim was a remarkable man and very dedicated husband and father who will be missed beyond measure. Our deepest condolences go to Ali, Ethan, Spencer, and Madi and to all who had the pleasure to know him.

Jim, you loved Alpha Epsilon Pi and your passion energized the best of us. With you and Andy Borans at the helm, you all placed trust in me. You believed in me to help guide the future leaders of our fraternity, work with administrators, and do expansion work that spanned the globe. You taught me to pursue my passions and ask any questions but also seek out the answers myself. You believed in accountability and knew our work was fun yet serious. The connection you and your wife shared was GOALS and the ways you integrated your AEPi family with your family were seamless.

As I reflected on these last few days I can't help but share that the most unassuming characteristic I can think of you was your ability to sing. Whether on long car rides or just in the office, I was surprised to hear you singing along to a variety of tunes on the radio with a talented voice.

I cannot even fathom what your experience with cancer was like however from what I have seen and heard from others I know that you fought until the last minute. I know that you celebrated life's challenges, supported your family, and still preached our fraternity until your final breath.

Thank you for being my brother's keeper. Thank you for espousing our values and providing others with the lamp of knowledge. Thank you for being a true mensch.

Numb…it’s how I feel and I know it’s only a fraction of what Ali and the kids are feeling. Jim was supposed to follow me into the Supreme Masters Chair, but resigned his SBG spot to take the COO spot at AEPi HQ. I knew this was the start of his dream career and was certainly sad that he wasn’t on our board but was ecstatic that he was happy and making the right move for his family. When he became the CEO, I had the honor of singing his initial contract. Jim was the epitome of a team player and brought this out in the quality staff that he recruited and trained. I have been crying like a baby for days but they are not sad tears, of course I’m sad but dammit I’m also thankful that I could call Jim my brother and my good friend. I love and will miss you Jimmy!

I first met Jim as a chapter consultant back in 1997 when Jim was still working in the greek apparel business. He always had such a good vibe and made everyone feel welcome. He was always more than willing to help with any advice while I was on the road.

I last saw him at Tribefest in New Orleans in 2014 when he was there representing AEPi. He was warm welcoming as ever and it was like no time had passed since I had seen him.

My sincerest condolences go out to him and his whole family. May his memory be a blessing.

Jim was always kind to me at conventions and he appreciated my efforts during my tenure as an AEPi undergrad. Jim was a great leader and he devoted his life to the welfare of AEPi. Jim has left an indelible mark on AEPi's history. On behalf of all AEPi alums, Thank you Brother Jim.

Sending you are deepest condolences. Wishing you strength and comfort during this most difficult time. May Jim's memory be for a blessing.

Gideon Levy

I met Jim almost ten years ago when I started as an ELC in Indianapolis. He had just made the move there himself with his wonderful family. Jim exuded so many positive traits every day: happiness, charisma, love. I've thought of him often since I left. I remember him welcoming every brother with open arms and a laugh at conclaves, conventions, and even just random meetings. This is tragic news, and he will be missed by the thousands of people whose lives he touched. My heart is with his family and friends right now. May his memory be a blessing, his time with us most definitely was.

I was lucky to be supervised by Jim for a year. It cannot have been easy for him. He cared more about my happiness than I ever did and it is something I am eternally grateful for and endlessly impacted by.

Yehoshua ben Perachyah said: Make for yourself a teacher; acquire for yourself a friend; and judge every person on the positive side. (Avot 1:6) Jim had a big picture perspective, an appreciation of little moments, and a joy for life that made this teaching real for me.

I'll think of Jim every time I'm late for work because I stopped for coffee on the way in (which was almost always fine, as long as I went to Dunkin' and I brought him an iced coffee with French Vanilla swirl and no sugar). Thanks for the laughter, for the patience, and for the passion. I wouldn't be who I am today without you.

I started and stopped writing this a dozen times. There isn't enough room for all the superlative adjectives I'd use to describe Jim. Suffice to say he was a joy to be around. Whatever difficulty there was in our lives or the fraternity he got us through it. He had a way of truly turning lemons into lemonade and making you feel good about it along the way. I miss him already.
In looking back to when I met him as an undergrad to then hiring him to be my successor he gave us his all and did it with that great smile of his. Many people have warmly commented on his smile - I'll add to that his infectious laugh as well. Whenever anyone around him was down he'd say "you have ten more minutes to be mad or unhappy and then you're done." He said it in such a good natured way that it so minimised whatever issue the person had they actually stopped being mad. No one could do that like Jim. The love expressed to you Jim by so many is both heartfelt and enduring - you live on in my and thousands of people's hearts. My love to Alison, Ethan, Spencer, Madi and Jim's whole extended family and friends. For our AEPi Brothers Jim was AEPi and AEPi was Jim - that will never change.

Jay and Jennifer Feldman

Our heart is broken. Alpha Epsilon Pi, our inter-fraternal family and the Jewish community has lost a true leader. Jim was a special person who brought laughter and smiles wherever he went. Jim's legacy will live on through Ali, Ethan, Spencer & Madi, and the future generations of AEPi leaders who have been touched by his impact.

Our hearts go out to the Fleischer family. Jim was a true community leader and we know that his legacy will continue on through his family. May his memory always be a blessing. We love you Fleischer family.

Bonnie Wunsch

There are no words. . . I remember first meeting Jim when he traveled for AEPi and I never held it against him that eventually that year would result in me having a staff member leave the road prematurely. Through the years it was a pleasure to watch Jim grown in his roles within the fraternity and interfraternal community. As many know, I often share that one of my VERY best AEPi conversations was with Jim in a hotel concierge room in Seattle several years ago. As he assumed the role of CEO we continued to have those wonderful conversations, found many points of mutual agreement and figured out how to agree to disagree with smiles and hugs! Jim's loss is not only for his family, his friends and his beloved brothers but for all of us who were fortunate to call him a friend and colleague. His smile, his laugh, his insight, his commitment to all he believed in will be missed by us all but will be a guiding light, as well. Alan and Ryan join me in sending love and prayers to Ali and their family as well as to Jim's AEPi brothers and staff. May his memory be a blessing.

My heart goes out to the entire Fleischer family during this difficult time. Jim's memory will be a blessing to his children, who hopefully will find some comfort when they remember what a special person Jim was.

Avi Gordoon

To the guy who "never knew what Avi was doing" when working for AEPi, Jim was always hilarious. The fashion statements he made of never tucking in his shirts is something I smile about now. I remember Jim beaming with pride when telling me that Ali was finally going to Israel on a group trip. He was not allowed to go to Israel until Ali did. Jim was beyond proud to share with me, the Israel Engagement Director for the Fraternity at the time, that his wife had an amazing experience on that trip. Being around Jim was always a great time. He laughed at every joke and always had a good one-liner to share. Jim met my wife before we were together and was impressed and thrilled that I was marrying someone who he approved. Rachel and I have always had a special place for Jim-one of our first supporters.

He always had his kids around the staff and I know that Ethan Spencer and Madi are interwoven within the AEPi fabric today. The world is a bit darker today without Jim but his legacy lives on in not only his kids and wife, but also the thousands of undergraduates and alumni he has touched. May Jim's memory forever be for a blessing. Sending our deepest love, prayers, and positive energy to the entire Fleischer family.

Ah Jim… so often we lionize the deceased in an exaggerated manner. But Jim. Jim was everything: a role model, mentor and mensch. His dedication to our fraternity was rivaled only by his commitment to his family. He had this wonderful self deprecating way of boosting up others while downplaying his own intelligence and razor sharp wit. His sense of humor was legendary. His smile contagious. And his laughter infectious. I will forever miss him picking up my phone calls with a cheerful “Andymo!!!!”

I so cherished seeing Ali, Spencer and Ethan tonight. Your strength is formidable, and along with Jim’s memory will carry you and Madi through challenging times. So will an army of friends, family and Brothers who are here for you.

Jim was a mentor, friend, and confidant. A visionary who always tackled every obstacle with a pragmatic, yet empathetic approach. My time at AEPi would not have been anywhere close to what it was had it not been for his guidance. As we lose a true mensch, the world has another angel looking after it. The thousands of undergraduates he has impacted are better because of his leadership and his mark will forever be left on this world.

May his memory continue to be a blessing. Sending my love to the Fleischer family and know many of us will carry his memory with us.

Jim was a truly great man, whose kindness and ever-jovial spirit were known to all who made his acquaintance.
I will forever be grateful to have worked work for Jim, and to have enjoyed his warm company in the office each day.
No colleague of mine - and certainly no superior - has ever made me laugh half as much as Jim did (often to the point of tears).
But then, Jim was not first my colleague, but my brother.
His care and genuine thoughtfulness for me and the other staff exemplified the fraternal connection that defines AEPi.
Jim was, in every sense, an exemplar of the storied virtues AEPi was founded to promote.
The chapter eternal has gained a legendary brother.
May Jim's memory be a blessing to all; his life surely was.

Dear Fleischer family, I had the sincere pleasure of getting to know Jim during my five year term as a Foundation Trustee. He truly was a class act and a Mensch. My heart goes out to you for your loss. G_D bless. Howard S Cohen

Jacob Baime

Jim was a true hero for the Jewish people and Israel. His kindness knew no bounds, and his wisdom served our fraternity so well. May his memory be a blessing.

Trey Meehan

Jim was the kind of boss any young professional would be lucky to have: supportive, smart, and funny. He provided the vision and then allowed those of us fortunate enough to work for him to pursue it. I often think of Jim when struggling to accomplish an assignment or task. "These things work themselves out" was his response to me in our weekly meetings. Eventually, my quip back to him was, "Because we make them work out."

Jim's memory will be a blessing. My thoughts and prayers are with Ali, Ethan, Spencer, Madi, and all who knew and loved Jim.

Frank and Richard Fleischer

This donation could be added to the fund for the Fleischer Courage Award if the family prefers.

Seth Siegel

I once bumped into Jim while doing a hike at a higher altitude than I wisely should have done, and I still had to go down a steep path to get back. Jim gave me a snack, some water, and then insisted I take his hiking poles, even though he would also need them and also that he had no idea if he would ever see me or his poles again. He identified himself as being an official with AEPi, and that made me so proud that the organization could have such a special person. (In case you were wondering, I left the poles exactly where he asked me to do so, and I confirmed later that he picked them up, but even so, what a remarkable act of compassion.) To his family: May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

Joseph and Anita Friedman

In loving memory to a wonderful family man and Aepi brother. We send our love to Ali. Ethan, Spencer. Madi, Grammy snd Pop.

Thinking of you. So sorry for you loss.

Michael Cohen

I met Jim through my work with the Louis D. Brandeis Center on our study of campus anti-Semitism during the pandemic. We had a couple of brief interactions but he was both super encouraging and very supportive. Reading more about him, I’m struck by his commitment to the fraternity, his friends, and his family. We went through a similar period of battling cancer around the same time and know how hard it is on the patient and the family. Please accept our condolences and heart-felt appreciation to Jim, his family, and the team at AEPi HQ. His memory is already a blessing. Until we meet again in Chapter Eternal. - MC

Jim was the first boss I had right out of college, right when he started as the CEO of the fraternity. Passing by Jim in the hallways of Headquarters always was a pleasant experience, and I was glad knowing I was working for the fraternity with him guiding the ship.
