Dear Chancellor Rebecca Blank,

My name is   and I am a  alumnus from the class of . I am writing about the university’s plan to begin fall semester classes on Rosh Hashanah. I am outraged by this slight of Jewish students and painful reminder that, too often, Jewish students are becoming marginalized and ignored on college campuses.

Forcing students and faculty members to make a choice between attending the first day of classes and observing a religious holiday -- especially one of the holiest days of the year -- is simply wrong, especially at an institution with a significant number of enrolled Jewish students.

This is an easily correctable error and half-efforts and lip service are not enough.
    
This sends a message to current and future Jewish students that the University of Wisconsin is neither welcoming nor inclusive and will have a negative impact on the likelihood of Jewish students wanting to enroll at the University.

Chancellor Rebecca Blank, I urge you to make this right for current and future Jewish students, Jewish staff, and Jewish alumni.
